Newton North's Marlon Rainville is this months Student Spotlight!

Marlon was nominated by Kevin Brosnan his Engineering and technology teacher for his participation in the wonderful story below.

"My 6 year old son, Shane, has mild Celebral Palsy which requires him to wear braces on both of his legs in order to walk.  This past summer he was playing with the neighborhood kids and wanted to use their Razor scooters. Despite multiple attempts, Shane's balancd and mobility issues prevented him from successfully using the scooter.  I approached a colleague,Kevin Brosnan, to see if he had any ideas about how to modify a scooter for Shane.   He brought the idea to his students and Marlon volunteered to work on modifying the scooter to meet the special needs of my son.  Marlon tried several different ways to lower the center of gravity of the scooter to make it more stable. He also designed a footrest to hold Shane's foot that we are trying to have fabricated at a metal shop in the area.  I was thrilled not only for my son but for Marlon who I had taught as a freshman. He is an incredibly talented young man with a heart of gold."   When speaking to Marlon he was proud of the nomination and thinks the Keys to Success program is "pretty cool! Good way to motivate students"   Great job Marlon and keep up the good work...I don't think this is the last invention he will be a part of! Congratulations!!
