Ryan MacPherson
Waltham High School
If you haven't already heard, Waltham High School is participating in a program called Keys to Success. Keys to Success is a chance for students to be rewarded for their academic excellence. Teachers all around Waltham High School are given a certain number of key cards to give to specific students who they think are striving for excellence.
One of the first to receive a Keys to Success card was junior Ryan MacPherson. MacPherson was nominated by History teacher, Student Council Advisor, and Swimming and Diving coach Mr. Gavin. Gavin chose MacPherson for his selfless attitude. As a freshman mentor program, MacPherson was assigned to Gavin's homeroom. Gavin explained that MacPherson was diligent about being on time everyday at the beginning of the year. MacPherson helped anyone who needed help, and he went out of his way to assist freshmen in his homeroom class. "He never wanted any credit-he didn't need to be told what to do-he just knew what to do," said Gavin.
MacPherson noticed a special needs student who seemed to be struggling to get around the school. Over the first few days, MacPherson helped him get adjusted to the new school and feel comfortable. MacPherson felt honored to receive a key card and he will continue to help students all around Waltham High School.
